Match Labels to Your Packaging Challenge
Cosmetic packaging fights back: tiny surfaces, tight curves, oil transfer, premium competition, low-energy plastics and multi-product consistency. Here is exactly how we solve each challenge — refined over thousands of makeup-brand orders.
| Packaging Challenge | Why It Matters | Recommended Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Very small label area | Lipstick tubes and mascara pens have extremely limited printable surface | Precision die-cut Flexible BOPP |
| Tight tube curvature | Lipstick and mascara tubes have small diameters causing label lifting | Thin BOPP film + Aggressive adhesive |
| Foundation oil transfer | Liquid foundation can seep under label edges at the dispenser | Oil-resistant BOPP PET + Laminate Tight die-cut edges |
| Premium shelf competition | Cosmetics compete on visual impression and perceived luxury | Foil stamping Embossing Soft-touch / Spot UV |
| Compact case adhesion | Plastic compact surfaces have low surface energy | Low-energy adhesive Flame / plasma treatment |
| Multi-product set consistency | Brands need matching labels across tubes, bottles and palettes | Coordinated production run Consistent materials & finishes |

Artwork Tips & Container Size Guide
Cosmetic packaging runs small. These reference dimensions and artwork rules help your labels print cleanly on even the tiniest lipstick tube.
Artwork Preparation
- Vector files only. Use AI, EPS or PDF for precise small-format printing.
- Separate foil layer. Provide a spot-color layer clearly marked for foil areas.
- 5pt minimum text. Keep text legible on small cosmetic containers.
- Mark embossing. Indicate embossed areas clearly in the artwork file.
- Reserve code space. Include space for batch codes, shade names and ingredient lists.
- Test on container. Test label design on actual container before final production.

Cosmetic Label Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best label material for cosmetic packaging?+
Clear BOPP and white BOPP are the most common cosmetic label materials because they resist oils, conform to small curved tubes and provide a clean professional look. PET is used for premium cosmetics where maximum durability is needed.
For luxury compact cases and palettes, textured paper with foil or embossing creates a boutique feel — but should be reserved for outer packaging rather than surfaces that contact product residue.
Can cosmetic labels include foil stamping?+
Yes. Gold, rose gold and silver foil stamping are extremely popular in cosmetics for logos, brand names and decorative accents. Foil adds perceived value without significantly increasing cost.
Rose gold foil pairs especially well with soft-touch or matte laminate for a modern, luxurious makeup-brand aesthetic.
How small can cosmetic labels be printed?+
We can print very small labels for lipstick tubes, lip gloss pens and sample sachets. Minimum text size should be 5pt or larger for readability on small cosmetic containers.
Send your artwork and container dimensions — we will confirm print feasibility and recommend the right material and die-cut shape for your specific tube or compact.
Can I get embossing on cosmetic labels?+
Yes. Embossing and debossing are available for textured paper and thicker film labels. Embossed logos are popular for luxury compact cases and palette labels where tactile feel signals premium positioning.
Do cosmetic labels need to be oil-resistant?+
Cosmetic products containing oils, foundations and cream formulas can transfer residue to label edges. Oil-resistant BOPP or PET film with laminate is recommended for these products.
Tight die-cut edges and aggressive permanent adhesive further prevent foundation seepage under the label at the dispenser area.
